Cowboys and Indians, huge oil fields, thousands of cattle herds: our expectations of Texas probably stemmed from childhood, before we set out to cross the largest state in the USA on a Harley-Davidson.

  1. Day – Arrival in Dallas/Grapevine

Welcome to Dallas! After your arrival, you will need to arrange your own transfer to the hotel. We recommend taking the inexpensive train (US$2.50) from the airport directly to Grapevine. This town is your gateway to the historical sites, wineries, and attractions around Dallas and Fort Worth.

The second day is ideal for settling into the western United States. This town has everything you need to acclimatize: nice, good restaurants, plenty of saloons, bars, and wine cellars with lots of live music. The train to the vibrant city of Fort Worth costs only $2.50 each way and takes about 30 minutes. An evening of honky-tonk dancing or line dancing at Billy Bob's is unforgettable.

You'll pick up your bikes first thing in the morning, and your Texas road trip can begin – but what would it be without a stay at a typical Texas ranch? In Abilene, you'll find attractions such as the Frontier Texas! Museum, the Grace Museum, and the Abilene Zoo. Buffalo Gap Historic Village: This hands-on museum near Abilene showcases a collection of historic buildings and artifacts, offering a glimpse into 19th-century life. As you approach San Angelo, this state park provides opportunities for hiking, fishing, camping, and other outdoor activities. The Concho River flows through the park, offering scenic views. Stroll through the historic town center to enjoy the Concho River Walk, visit local businesses, and admire the charming architecture.

Today's route leads past the Balmorhea State Park is home to a natural spring-fed lake, perfect for swimming and diving. The lake teems with fish and plants, offering a unique recreational opportunity along the route. Just before reaching your destination for the day, you'll arrive in Marfa, a town renowned for its art scene and iconic landmarks like the Prada Marfa art installation. It's also famous for the mysterious phenomenon of the Marfa Lights.

As soon as you arrive in Alpine, you can enjoy the town's relaxed atmosphere. You could visit the galleries and shops, try local restaurants, and explore the rugged beauty of the surrounding landscapes.

  1. Day – San Angelo – Big Bend National Park (107 miles // 172 km)

Around midday, you'll reach one of the largest national parks in the USA, Big Bend, which covers a total area of 3,200 square kilometers. Passing the Rio Grande and abandoned film towns where various Westerns were shot, you'll ride through desert-like landscapes up to an altitude of over 2,000 meters. In the background, the mountains become increasingly bizarre. Your only disturbances will be the occasional giant tarantula or rattlesnake trying to cross the road. In the evening, you can grab a snack at the Starlight Theatre in Ghosttown (the town truly lived up to its name).

  1. Day – Big Bend National Park

This is your day in the National Park – only the high mountains separate you from Mexico.
Many great little roads lead to waterfalls, ghost towns, and Santa Elena Canyon is the crowning finale of the drive.

  1. Tag – Big Bend National Park – Del Rio   (250 miles // 400 km)

A long drive awaits you today, so you should set off early! Many miles lie ahead, and the first few will take you through the vastness of the park. After that, the landscape will become more barren until we reach our destination for the day – Del Rio, the Key West of Texas.

  1. Tag – Del Rio – San Antonio  (156 miles // 250 km)

Arriving in the seventh-largest city in the USA (named after the river of the same name), you get your first taste of big-city life. The next morning is dedicated to sightseeing, exploring historical landmarks such as the famous Alamo (where the mission fought for thirteen days in 1836 against Mexican troops for its freedom) and the Riverwalk, a tourist attraction located one level below street level, which can be explored either on foot or by boat along the canal, lined with restaurants and nightclubs as far as the eye can see. 

  1. Tag – San Antonio – Fredericksburg   (100 miles // 16 km)

In the early afternoon, the journey continues into the depths of the "Green Hills" of Texas. The dream of motorcycling becomes a reality. What awaits you here is simply fantastic: the Three Twisted Sisters (the three curved roads), which run parallel to each other from north to south or vice versa and are every bit as impressive as the Alpine roads. The remaining 100 miles are pure enjoyment and riding pleasure, leading on to the biker mecca of Luckenbach. Every biker should visit this place at least once in their lifetime. Countless stories circulate about this legendary village with its three inhabitants. Musical greats of all genres have graced its dance hall, and you simply can't leave the adjacent post office without a souvenir..

  1. Tag – Fredericksburg

Enjoy your day in Fredericksburg: grab a cool drink at a beer garden on Main Street or visit the National Museum of the Pacific War. The Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is always worth a day trip.

  1. Tag- Fredericksburg- Austin (79 miles // 126 km)

Austin isn't just a vibrant musical hub; this city also boasts a rich artistic scene. Visit fantastic art exhibitions like those at the Blanton Museum of Art and admire impressive street art. Numerous colorful graffiti and murals can be found throughout the city – so keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready.
Do you love motorsports? Then Austin is the perfect destination for you, because here you can cheer on your favorites at a variety of races on the challenging Circuit of the Americas. From motorcycle races to Formula 1 and the IndyCar Series, it's all there. In the evening, countless saloons with live music await you on 6th Street.

  1. Day - Austin - Dallas (195 miles // 312 km)

Head to the next destination on your Texas road trip – Dallas. The slogan "Big Things Happen Here" is truly fitting – typical Texan lifestyle meets moving history, a fantastic cultural scene, and culinary delights. The city's skyline is one of the most extraordinary in the USA: Admire this striking sight from the observation deck of the Reunion Tower. At the Sixth Floor Museum in Dealey Plaza, an audio tour will reveal much about Dallas's eventful past. The exhibit sheds light on the life and assassination of former US President John F. Kennedy and illustrates how this event changed the country.
In the evening, a visit to Margarita Mile will put you in a relaxed mood. Here you'll find the trendiest spots with the best margaritas in the city. An app helps you find the perfect bars.
