Today you'll get your Harley and cruise along Lake Michigan to reach the starting point of Route 66 in Downtown Chicago. In the evening you will meet the other group members who are also starting their tour here. Enjoy the evening with cool drinks and tell us about your experiences at the Harley-Davidson Museum – feel free to make your fellow travelers a little envious! Tomorrow your unique adventure on the Mother Road begins.
Day 4
187 mi/299.2 km
Chicago, IL – Springfield, IL
Look forward to a relaxing start while the other tour participants pick up their bikes at EagleRider. The legendary Route 66 begins right outside our EagleRider headquarters, runs through Illinois and through 8 states to the Pacific coast of Los Angeles. From Chicago we drive south along the „Pontiac Trail“ – that's what this section was originally called –, cross Joliet, admire the „Launching Pad Giant“, stop at the fantastic Route 66 Museum in Pontiac and get the full feel for the asphalt of the Mother Road.
Day 5
116 mi/185.6 km
Springfield, IL – St.Louis, MO
Today we're heading towards St. Louis! We mostly drive on the two-lane Mother Road, crossing cornfields and small towns that represent the heart of America. After passing the „Chain of Rocks Bridge“ – the original bridge on which Route 66 crosses the Mississippi –, we reach St. Louis. Enjoy the short drive to „Gateway to the West“, St. Louis. This wonderful city is located on the mighty Mississippi River and is known for great live music and delicious barbecue ribs.
Day 6
335 mi/536 km
St. Louis, MO – Joplin, MO
Try to get up early to enjoy a great view of Gateway Arch and the Mississippi River in the morning light. Soon we'll leave the city behind, make ourselves comfortable in our saddles, and enjoy the hilly landscape of Missouri – perfect for driving! We stop at the famous, largest rocking chair in the world in Fanning and then wind our way through the winding streets of „Devil's Elbow“. Another stop takes us to Gary at „Gay Parita's“ – a true Route 66 icon. Tonight we are spending time in Joplin, a city that was hit by a tornado in 2011. In the small town center there is an opportunity to chat with locals and hear their breathtaking stories.
Day 7
255 mi/408 km
Joplin, MO – Oklahoma City, OK
Today it's all about driving! From Joplin, the route heads west through rolling hills and horse landscapes in Oklahoma. We pass through the cities of Miami, Claremore and Catoosa, where the legendary Blue Whale lives, and stop for lunch in Tulsa. Along the way, we drive through areas that were once labeled „Indian territory“ by the government in the 1830s because they were considered useless – a place where the tribes that restricted settlers in the south were displaced. The Choctaw, Chickasaw, Seminole, Creek and Cherokee are just some of the many tribes that live here. Further west we cross the „mile-long bridge“ at Bridgeport and drive to Oklahoma City – the heart and soul of Route 66.
Day 8
266 mi/425.6 km
Oklahoma City, OK – Amarillo, TX
This morning we're walking along some of the oldest sections of Oklahoma's Route 66. This used to be the land of huge buffalo herds, and Route 66 crosses old cattle trails here that were used in the 1860s to drive cattle from Texas to Abilene, Kansas. We drive a short distance on the Chisholm Trail, which passes through Yukon and El Reno, and stop at the impressive Route 66 Museum in Clinton. After lunch, we cross the border into the Texas peninsula, the southernmost part of the Great Plains. Our friend from „The Big Texan Steakhouse“ picks us up from the hotel with old Cadillacs – the hoods decorated with Texas Longhorn horns – and we enjoy the best steaks in Texas!
Day 9
303 mi/484.8 km
Amarillo, TX – Santa Fe, NM
Today you leave Texas and head to “Land of Enchantment” New Mexico – after seeing the world-famous Cadillac Ranch. How about the ghost town of Glen Rio, where you can stand with one foot in New Mexico and the other in Texas? From there you will travel to the land of the Comanche Indians, where individual hills, mountains, cacti and pines define the landscape, while you will venture into the higher plains of Santa Fe in central New Mexico. Santa Fe is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in America.
Day 10
0 mi/0 km
Santa Fe, NM – Day Off
Today is at your leisure, and you can enjoy the characteristic feeling of this almost 400-year-old city. The mix of cultures is particularly noticeable in the styles of southwestern architecture, which are so closely associated with the capital of New Mexico. Perhaps you would like to drive along a river village to the old Native American town of Taos, or enjoy a hot air balloon ride at sunrise. Or you can play cowboy and explore the hiking trails in the horse saddle. Santa Fe offers you all that and much more.
Day 11
271 mi/433.6 km
Santa Fe, NM – Gallup, NM
This morning you are driving south to Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico, with a third of the state's population. Albuquerque is widely located in the heart of New Mexico, where the main east-west road and tracks pass both the Rio Grande and the old road to Mexico. You cross the Rio Grande and head west out into the vastness of the Navajo wilderness. Later, you'll drive through Grants and along the Cibola National Forest towards Gallup, a famous railroad town and Native American stronghold. Enjoy an overnight stay with passengers from all over the world in one of Gallup's many biker-friendly hotels.
Day 12
283 mi/452.8 km
Gallup, NM – Grand Canyon, AZ
Today is another big day full of spectacular landscapes and Route 66 icons. You cross the border into Arizona and drive into Petrified Forest National Park, a petrified, prehistoric forest with giant trees uprooted by erosion. Here you have time to explore this breathtaking landscape and take a moment to lose yourself in the vastness of the country. After leaving Petrified Forest National Park, continue west to the Wigwam Hotel in Holbrook and stop to stand on the “Corner in Winslow”. Most groups stay overnight in Flagstaff or Williams, Arizona, but you continue on to spend your night just one mile from the southern rim of the Grand Canyon! Tonight you will enjoy the sunset over the southern rim of the Grand Canyon with a cool drink. The dream will come true!
Day 13
256 mi/409.6 km
Grand Canyon, AZ – Laughlin, AZ
For anyone who wants a bird's-eye view of the Grand Canyon, we can organize a helicopter flight over the heart of the southern rim. Later in the day you will have plenty of time to drive along the edge of the canyon and take lots of souvenir photos. Afterwards, you leave the Grand Canyon and return to Route 66 in Williams, AZ. You will make stops in the famous towns of Seligman, Peach Springs, and Hackberry.
Day 14
129 mi/206.4 km
Laughlin, AZ – Las Vegas, NV
Today is time for a little detour to experience the incredible sights of Las Vegas. But first, you'll drive through the old ghost town of Oatman and travel over the famous Hoover Dam. One thing's for sure: your time in Las Vegas may be short, but it's definitely worth it! Try to get some sleep, because tomorrow is going to be a tiring day.
Day 15
282 mi/451.2 km
Las Vegas, NV – Victorville, CA
Today you cross the border into your last state on Route 66 – California! One thing is certain: Today will be like no other. You will cross the Mojave Desert, which has some pretty dramatic landscapes to offer in Southern California. You can now surely imagine what it must have been like for the first travelers on Route 66 as they made their way through this vast expanse of desert. Tonight we celebrate our last night on „Mother Road“.
Day 16
124 mi/198.4 km
Victorville, CA – Los Angeles, CA
Today you're heading to your destination – the end of the road on the Santa Monica Pier! To get there, you first have to drive 66 miles on the Angeles Crest Highway through the mountainous area of the Angeles National Forest. This highway is considered one of the best motorcycle routes in Southern California and rises over 2,300 meters. From there, you drive down the Crest to Los Angeles and head towards the Pacific Ocean. Motorcyclists always have mixed feelings when they see the “End of the Trail” sign on the Santa Monica Pier. A feeling of joy and euphoria that you have completed the journey that most can only dream of, and a feeling of sadness when you think that the journey is now over. Tonight we'll celebrate the miles we've driven and the friends we've gained new at a farewell dinner together!
