Arizona Sunshine & Desert
12 Days – Highway One and the West
Day 1 – Flight to California
Flight with a reputable scheduled airline from your chosen departure airport to Los Angeles (connecting flights possible). Upon arrival, a shuttle transfer will take you to a centrally located airport hotel, where you will meet your guide. Depending on your arrival time, the first meeting and tour briefing will take place that evening; otherwise, it will be the next day. Overnight stay in Los Angeles.
Day 2 – Highway 1 – San Diego 215 km
After breakfast, your luggage will be loaded into the support vehicle and you will be transferred to the rental station. After completing the formalities and receiving a brief briefing, you will collect your motorcycles and begin your Harley® tour through the desert regions of California, Arizona, and Nevada. You will leave Los Angeles in the morning. You will follow the coastal Highway 1, also known as the "Pan-American Highway" or "Dream Road of the World." Via Palos Verdes, you will travel to Long Beach and then on to Carlsbad, where you will spend your lunch break. In the afternoon, you will reach the old mission town of San Diego. If time allows, you can visit the Del Coronado Peninsula, with the hotel of the same name, which became famous through the film "Some Like It Hot" with Marylin Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon, who all caused mischief here. Your hotel is close to the historic Old Town, which you can easily explore on foot this evening. Overnight stay in San Diego.
Day 3 – Arizona – Mexican border region – Yuma 460 km
Today's stage will be a bit longer than yesterday. However, thanks to the well-maintained roads, you will quickly reach your destination. Through an interesting foothill landscape, you will travel along the Mexican border into
the state of Arizona. You'll reach the former provincial capital of the Yuma Territory around midday. There, you'll have the opportunity to visit the old territorial prison on the Colorado River, which forms the border with Mexico. You'll continue on well-maintained roads through the Sonora Desert, reaching your overnight destination, Gila Bend, in the early evening.
Day 4 – Sonora Desert – Saguaro Cactus Forests – Tombstone 390 km
You continue along the US-Mexican border, stopping in the historic town of Ajo and crossing the Saguaro cactus forests, which can be found in abundance in the Sonora Desert.
These cacti grow over 20 meters tall and are more than 500 years old. During your lunch break, you'll have the opportunity to visit the Pima Air & Space Museum, known for its massive aircraft graveyard. You'll reach Tombstone in the early afternoon, where you'll visit the OK Corral, the old cemetery, and the town itself, which brings the stories of Virgil and Wyatt Earp, Doc Holiday, and the Canton Brothers back to life. This old western town is sure to leave a lasting impression. The local Harley® shop even sells the appropriate T-shirt, making it the perfect souvenir to take home. You can spend the evening in one of Tombstone's old saloons. Spend the night in Tombstone.
Day 5 – Top of the World – Scottsdale – Phoenix 380 km
In the morning, you'll set off through the Catalina and Tonto mountain regions. Your journey will take you through still-active mining towns like Hayden and Superior toward Phoenix, Arizona's capital. Along the way, you'll visit one of the world's largest open-pit copper mines and the historic Queens Creek Bridge on the Top of the World Highway. You'll spend the night in the lively downtown Scottsdale, Phoenix's sister city, and, of course, have plenty of time to explore. Overnight in the Scottsdale area.
Day 6 – Wickenburg – London Bridge – Lake Havasu 370 km
Today, you'll set off along Highway 74 through wild saguaro cacti and Joshua tree forests to Wickenburg. There, you'll explore the unique Desert Caballero Western Museum. After lunch, you'll cross the Mojave Desert, which is again lined with sagebrush, cacti, and Joshua trees. In the afternoon, you'll reach the Colorado River and the small town of Lake Havasu City. The most famous landmark there is the London Bridge. This bridge was built in London in 1831 and sold in the 1960s to an oil baron, who had it rebuilt 15,000 km away in Arizona. Overnight in Lake Havasu City.
Day 7 – Route 66 – Oatman – Kingman – Lake Mead – Las Vegas 320 km
Today is another eventful day on your motorcycle tour. You'll leave Lake Havasu City and encounter historic Route 66 near Topock. You'll visit the old western town of Oatman, a regular stop for many Harley riders. This place still reminds us of the first settlers and miners in the West, as well as the wild donkeys. True cowboys look forward to your visit. The Route 66 Museum in Kingman is also on your route, as are Cool Springs and the Sitegreave Pass. After a lunch break in an original 1950s diner, you'll cross the Hoover Dam to the next highlight of your tour, Sin City – Las Vegas. Overnight in Las Vegas.
OUR TIP : You can end the day with a relaxing dinner together and then be chauffeured like the movie stars on an optional stretch limousine tour along the Strip and into Old Town Las Vegas.
Day 8 – Las Vegas – Rest day or Mount Charleston – Red Rock State Park 0–120 km
The day is at your leisure to explore Las Vegas on your own. For those who are eager to explore, there are self-guided day trips to Mt. Charleston or Red Rock State Park, followed by a visit to Red Rock Harley-Davidson®. Alternatively, you can also opt for a longer day trip to the Valley of Fire.
OUR TIP: Helicopter tour with landing in the Grand Canyon.
Day 9 – Eldorado Gold Mine – Route 66 – Amboy – Baghdad 440 km
After breakfast, you'll drive down into Eldorado Canyon, where you'll have the opportunity to visit an old gold mine. This location has been the setting for many well-known films and commercials (e.g., "3000 Miles to Graceland" or "Breakdown" with Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell). You'll continue through the Mojave Desert back onto the old Route 66. You'll pass Essex and Goffs to Amboy, where a mandatory stop at Roy's Cafe is a must. The Bagdad Cafe, where the film of the same name was filmed, is also on your route. Many of the small towns here on the Mother Road have literally disappeared. The end point of your tour today is Barstow, where you'll also spend the night.
Day 10 – San Gabriel Mountains – Topanga Canyon – Highway 1 310 km
In the morning, you'll leave Barstow to conclude your "Arizona Sunshine & Desert Tour" adventure. The following route, along the famous Highway 2 or Angel's Crest Highway, through the San Gabriel Mountains, is almost entirely winding for over 80 km, winding over mountains and through canyons. Topanga Canyon is another highlight on this route before you reach the famous coastal road, Highway 1. You'll pass Santa Monica, which marks the end or beginning of Route 66, before reaching Los Angeles, the final destination of the last day of the tour. You'll return your bikes to our local rental station, and you'll be transferred to your hotel. You can reflect on the tour and unwind over a leisurely dinner. Overnight stay in Los Angeles/LAX.
Day 11 – Los Angeles and return flight to Europe
Today, the morning is at your leisure. Depending on your departure time, you have the opportunity to participate in a guided city tour with a local guide (optional, advance reservation required). You will then be picked up from your hotel by bus and depart for your city tour of Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Downtown LA, and Hollywood. In the afternoon, a shuttle transfer to Los Angeles Airport will take you home. Your return flight with a reputable scheduled airline (connecting flights possible) will take you back to the starting point of your trip.
Day 12 – Arrival in Europe
