Guided motorcycle tour
Alaska, USA / Yukon, Canada guided motorcycle tour
Join us for a classic Midsummer Night's Eve motorcycle tour through the most beautiful parts of Alaska and the Yukon Territory. Following in the footsteps of the gold prospectors, we'll travel along the Klondyke and Alaska Highways, past the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. A ferry ride on the Marine Highway offers excellent opportunities to encounter the orcas and humpback whales that reside here in the summer. Denali National Park is known for its grizzlies and wolves. The cities of Anchorage, Seward, Skagway, Whitehorse, Dawson, and Fairbanks await you on this tour. Breathtaking wildlife sightings amidst a wild and magnificent landscape await you. You'll "ride" a guided tour with one of our experts as your tour guide and the iconic motorcycle brand.
We've prepared a well-planned tour for you, which includes a fair amount of riding miles each day, but also doesn't neglect the sights along the way. The motorcycles for our guided tours are mostly from Harley-Davidson® Authorized Rentals™. This means we have an excellent selection of the latest models, all perfectly prepared for you. As an added bonus, the entire tour will be accompanied by a van. This will accommodate all your luggage during the tour, and depending on space availability, companions can also ride in the van – for you, it's pure motorcycling!
Day 1 – Flight to Alaska
Flight with a reputable scheduled airline from your chosen departure airport to Anchorage (connecting flights possible). Upon arrival, a hotel shuttle transfer will take you to a centrally located mid-range hotel in downtown Anchorage. Depending on your arrival time, the first meeting and dinner will take place today. Overnight in Anchorage.
Day 02 – Anchorage – Bike Pickup – Hatcher Pass – Independence Mine 140 km
After breakfast, the morning is at your leisure, allowing you to explore downtown Anchorage, which is within walking distance. In the early afternoon, you'll load up the support vehicle and pick up your motorcycles from our Harley-Davidson rental partner. Today's short leg takes you up to Hatcher Pass, where you'll visit the state park surrounding the old Independence Mine. After an early dinner at the pass, you'll settle into your overnight accommodations in the Wasilla/Palmer area.
Day 03 – Glenn Highway – Glacier Landscape – Matanuska River – Trans Alaska Pipeline – Wrangell Saint Elias National Park 460 km
Today, you'll start your Alaska adventure early. You'll follow the Glenn Highway, known for its colorful mountain backdrop of glaciers and the Matanuska River flowing below. For a fee, it's possible to visit Matanuska Glacier Park and take a short hike at its base. You'll spend your lunch break in a pleasant lodge and later encounter part of the nearly 1,300 km long Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which runs from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez. Up to 2.1 million barrels of oil are pumped here every day to the loading station. You'll then follow the Tok Cutoff along Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park, with its vast, almost 5,000 meter high mountain backdrop. In the late afternoon, you'll reach the small town of Tok, where you'll spend the night.
OUR TIP: Matanuska Glacier Park
Day 04 – Alaska Highway – Destruction Bay – Yukon Territory 470 km
After breakfast, you'll set off on the famous Alaska Highway. When crossing the border into Canada, you'll have to change the time by one hour. You'll spend the entire day following the wildlife-rich St. Elias Mountain Range and, with a little luck, might spot bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and bears. You'll follow this endlessly expansive landscape until you reach Haines Junction, your overnight stop.
Day 05 – Haines – Alaska Marine Highway – Skagway 240 km
Today's short journey takes you past beautiful mountain lakes. Via the Chillikat Pass, you'll reach the US border again and the town of Haines. In winter, this region is known for its large gatherings of bald eagles. Thousands of them feed on the rising salmon. After lunch, a short ferry ride takes you along the Alaska Marine Highway to the old gold rush town of Skagway. Thousands of gold rushers set out from here during the Klondike Gold Rush in the 19th century. This evening, you can explore this still-vibrant gold rush town. Overnight in Skagway.
Day 06 – Klondyke Highway – Chilkoot Pass – Whitehorse – Braeburn Lodge 350 km
After breakfast, you'll take the Klondike Highway, following the old gold rush route and crossing the border into Canada again at White Pass. Further northwest, the Chilkoot Pass and Dead Horse Gulch are further historic landmarks from the gold rush era. In Carcross, you'll visit the local harbor and the small desert of the same name, with authentic sand dunes. Passing the Caribou Crossing Trading Post and Emerald Lake, you'll pass Whitehorse in the early afternoon, which has now become a supply center for the region. In the afternoon, you'll visit Braeburn Lodge, where you'll have the chance to try the country's famous XXL cinnamon rolls. In the past, there was a roadhouse like this one every 20 miles along this route, and the journey by horse-drawn carriage took around 10 days. Today, you'll spend the night in a simple motel in Carmacks.
Day 07 – Klondyke Highway – Yukon – Dawson City 360 km
Uninhabited land, rivers and lakes, as well as expansive spruce forests, will accompany you today. You'll get a view of the Five Finger Rapids, five narrow channels through which the Yukon River squeezes, creating extreme whitewater. Passing Stewart Crossing, you'll reach Dawson City, a forest paradise at the confluence of the Yukon and Klondike rivers, in the early afternoon. Use the afternoon to explore this old gold rush town and its historic sights. Spend the night in Dawson City.
Day 08 – Top of the World Highway – Chicken – Tok 300 km
In the morning, you'll take the ferry across the Yukon, and your "Top of the World Highway" adventure begins. This solid, well-maintained dirt road is only open from May to September and runs directly along the mountain ridge for approximately 130 km. In some places, especially after rainfall, you can expect a rough patch, so be careful. After crossing the US border again, you'll spend your lunch break in the small town of Chicken. Here, you'll see the old dredges that were used to extract gold and have the opportunity to try your hand at gold panning. In the afternoon, you'll return to the familiar town of Tok, where you'll spend the night.
Day 09 – Alaska Highway – North Pole – Fairbanks 330 km
After a hearty breakfast, you'll set off on the Alaska Highway today. Following the Alaska Range, you'll reach Dot Lake and the town of Delta Junction, where you'll rejoin the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. The next stop is North Pole, home of Santa Claus, or Father Christmas as we know him. After a visit to the Santa Claus Museum, you'll continue on to Fairbanks, Alaska's second-largest city. This afternoon, visit the Ice Museum with its cold sculptures for a change. Overnight in Fairbanks.
Day 10 – Denali Highway – Denali National Park – Talkeetna 440 km
Today's stage takes you to another highlight. A quick photo stop at the Skinny Dicks biker bar is a must before you take a short coffee break in Nenana. You'll spend your lunch break at the famous Salmon Bake Restaurant in Cantwell. From there, on a clear day, you'll have a magnificent view of the 6,194-meter-high Mt. Denali, also known as Mt. McKinley. This is the landmark of the national park of the same name and the region. With a little luck, you'll see snow sheep and caribou grazing in the meadows, but gray wolves, grizzly bears, moose, moose, and bald eagles are also some of the animals that call this area home. The majestic mountains add their own flair. On the way to Talkeetna, you'll make further stops along this unique backdrop. You'll spend the night in Talkeetna, where you'll have the opportunity to take a scenic flight with one of the world-famous Alaska bush pilots. The flight lasts approximately two hours and includes a landing on one of the glaciers, which are up to 70 kilometers long. OUR TIP: Sightseeing flight to Mt. Denali
Day 11 – Kenai Peninsula – Seward – Whale Watching 380 km
In the morning, you'll set off again toward Anchorage, which is also the starting point for the most famous dog sled race, the "Itarod." However, you'll leave Anchorage behind for today, as your journey takes you to the Kenai Peninsula. You'll follow the Turnagain Arm, known for its extreme tidal range. You'll spend your lunch break at the Trail Lake Lodge. After arriving in the small town of Seward, you have the opportunity to take an optional dinner boat tour to Kenai Fjords National Park with its unique glacial landscape. With a little luck, you'll see sea lions, bald eagles, orcas, and humpback whales. Overnight in Seward. OUR TIP: Whale Watching & Dinner Cruise
Day 12 – Turnagain Arm – Alaska Wildlife Center – Anchorage 200 km
If you didn't already do so yesterday, you can visit the Alaska Wildlife Center today, where, in addition to moose, musk oxen, and wolves, you can also observe grizzly bears in virtually free-roaming conditions. You'll return to your starting point in Anchorage along the Turnagain Arm, which you're already familiar with. In the early afternoon, you'll return your motorcycles to the rental partner and be transferred to a hotel near the city center. You can then spend the evening together for dinner at a nice brewery to round off this fantastic tour. Overnight in Anchorage.
Day 13 – Flight home to Europe
During the day, the hotel shuttle will transfer you to Anchorage Airport. Depending on your departure time, you'll have time to take care of any last-minute errands. Your return flight (connecting flights are possible) will be carried out with a reputable scheduled airline back to your departure airport.
Day 14 – Arrival in Europe. Arrive at your chosen departure point in the morning. End of the trip.
