Guided tour including scheduled flight with renowned airline
Legendary Route 66
18-day classic motorcycle tour
Route 66, 3,945 kilometers long from Chicago to Los Angeles, is the iconic route of many legends. It crosses three time zones in eight US states. The old pioneers of the West planned and built this road back in 1926, and it was finally completely paved in 1932. The 1950s were the glory days of Route 66, when thousands of cars drove bumper to bumper to experience the adventure of the West. Hotels, motels, gas stations, classic restaurants, and the new mobile America could be found everywhere. Many of the classic routes, restaurants, gas stations, and historical landmarks have been restored and are in their original 1950s condition. The unique and nostalgic Route 66 is the road that someone in heaven created for Harley-Davidson® riders. Simply put – this is "the best guided tour" in America!

You will pass Santa Monica again, which marks the beginning or end of Route 66, before turning off to drive through Topanga Canyon. The subsequent route through the San Gabriel Mountains has almost only curves for over 80 km and winds over mountains and through canyons. The end point of your tour today is the town of Barstow on the Mother Road, where you will also spend the night.
Day 4 – Route 66 – Roy's Cafe – Hoover Dam – Las Vegas 430 km
After an early breakfast, we head through the Mojave Desert back onto old Route 66. A mandatory stop at Roy's Cafe in Amboy is a must before we head past Essex and Goffs toward the Hoover Dam. From Lake Mead View and the New Bridge, you'll have an outstanding view of this engineering marvel. In the late afternoon, you'll reach the gambling paradise in the desert, the glittering city of Las Vegas. In the evening, simply visit the numerous hotel attractions, go shopping, or visit the observation deck of the 350 m high Stratosphere Tower to get an overview of the city. Overnight stay in Las Vegas OUR TIP: You can end the day with a relaxing dinner together and then be chauffeured like the movie stars on an optional stretch limousine tour along the Strip and into Old Town Las Vegas.
Day 5 – Las Vegas – Day at leisure
Today you have the day at your leisure in Las Vegas. Your guide will be happy to assist you with booking show tickets, helicopter rides, and all other attractions. An optional, inexpensive shopping shuttle to an outlet mall is available on-site. For those who aren't always comfortable, you can take a self-guided day trip to the Valley of Fire or Mount Charleston. Overnight in Las Vegas. OUR TIP: Get married in Las Vegas! Whether it's for the first time or to renew your vows, just ask us!
Day 6 – Oatman – Kingman – Seligman – Williams 450 km
In the morning, you'll leave Nevada heading south, soon reaching the town of Laughlin on the Colorado River. After a brief photo stop, you'll enter Arizona and head back toward Route 66. Along the way, you'll see several small western towns, such as Oatman, a regular stop for many Harley riders. Authentic cowboys, miners, and wild donkeys will evoke memories of the Old West. The Route 66 Museum in Kingman is on your route, as is the historic General Store in Hackberry. You'll cross the Hualapai Indian Reservation and catch your first glimpse of the western rim of the Grand Canyon. In the small town of Seligman, you'll visit Angel Delgadillo, arguably the most famous barber in the world, who is one of the co-founders of the Route 66 Association and is considered the father of today's Route 66. The end point of your journey today is the small town of Williams, which, with its historic houses and old entertainment district right on the Mother Road, has retained much of the "Good Old West." You'll spend the night in a motel almost directly on Route 66, and in the evening, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic steak dinner there.
Day 7 – Grand Canyon 360 km
In the morning, you'll have the opportunity to take a helicopter tour over the breathtaking Grand Canyon before beginning your day's tour from Williams to one of the Seven Wonders of the World. This spot was sung about by the American band The Eagles in the song "Take It Easy – Standing on the Corner in Winslow, Arizona." You'll continue via the Jack Rabbit Trading Post and to the Wigwam Hotel in Holbrook. In the afternoon, you'll visit Petrified Forest National Park and the Yellow Chief Trading Post. You'll spend the night in the old railroad and Native American town of Gallup.
Day 9 – Laguna – Albuquerque – Santa Fe 420 km
Today, you'll travel through the Navajo Wilderness, over wide roads, through a sea of purple and blood-red colors. You'll visit the over 300-year-old mission church in Laguna. Next up is the balloon festival city of Albuquerque on the Rio Grande River, where you'll spend your lunch break in the historic plaza. Weather permitting, you'll drive up the side road to the unique Sandia Crest Highway. In the afternoon, you'll stop in the small town of Madrid and at Maggie's Dinner, which became famous through the film "Wild Hogs" with John Travolta and Tim Allen. Day 10 – Rest day or tour to Taos – Rio Grande 0-290 km
Today you can relax a bit. Santa Fe is a great place for shopping. If you're interested, you can join us for a tour of the ancient Indian pueblo of Taos, which you'll reach along the Rio Grande River Valley. The steel girder bridge high above the Rio Grande Gorge offers a magnificent view of the river. From here, on a clear day, you can see the southern, mostly snow-covered foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The return journey takes you through the desert-like, but not arid, highlands. Overnight in Santa Fe
Day 11 – Tucumcari – Mid Point – Cadillac Ranch – Big Texas Steakhouse 490 km
Today you'll leave Santa Fe through the High Plains, Comanche Country. You'll head to Tucumcari, where you'll stop for photos at the Blue Swallow Motel. You've already checked off three (or four) states on your list, and there are five more to go. Shortly after Glen Rio, you'll reach the Midpoint in Adrian, which is 1,139 miles from either the beginning or end of Route 66. Now that you've arrived in Texas, you'll see a Caddle Round-Up, or as we jokingly call it, tonight's steak. The next highlight is the Cadillac Ranch, which is meant to commemorate the old days of Route 66. Situated at the same angle as the Pyramids of Giza, these old cars are one of the highlights. You can already mentally prepare yourself for a Texas-style steak tonight. Whoever manages to finish the 4.5-pound T-bone steak, including side dishes, in 60 minutes will receive it sponsored by the Big Texan Steakhouse! So, enjoy your meal. Overnight in Amarillo.
Day 12 – Texas – Elk City – Oklahoma City 430 km
Today there are plenty of attractions to see, including the largest cross in the Western Hemisphere, the leaning water tower in Britton, and the Devil's Rope Museum. You'll stop at the restored U-Drop Inn, one of the original Route 66 gas stations, in the oil town of Shamrock. The journey continues through the Texas Panhandle. Near Texola, you'll enter Oklahoma, then visit the largest Route 66 museum in the USA in Elk City. In the afternoon, you'll continue to Clinton, the heart and soul of Route 66 country, where you'll cross the Canadian River on a pony bridge over 1,000 meters long. Via El Reno, you'll reach Oklahoma City, or OKC for short.
Day 13 – Red Barn – Blue Whale – Rainbow Bridge – Kansas 410 km
You'll leave OKC after a brief stop at the Capitol Building in Oklahoma's capital city. You'll then travel along the Mother Road, 100 miles through Indian country in the Old West. The paved ribbon of Route 66 follows the land as if it had always been there. Along the route are attractions such as the Red Barn in Arcadia and the Seaba Gas Station in Warwick. The old steel arch bridge over Rock Creek is also on the itinerary, as is the Blue Whale in Catoosa. You'll visit the historic city of Miami and see the Route 66 Vintage Museum and the famous Coleman Theater. US star Will Rogers regularly performed here. You'll then travel to the Sunflower State of Kansas. At just 20 km, this has the shortest stretch of Route 66. The attractions here include the Rainbow Bridge and the small town of Galena, which is again close to the Missouri border. The next larger city is Joplin, where you'll spend the night.
Day 14 – Missouri – Fantastic Caverns – Ozark Mountains 340 km
Today you will visit the historic courthouse in Carthage and the old Sinclair gas station in Halltown. You will pass through lesser-known towns like Conway and Lebanon, which are located along Missouri's Route 66. Today you have the opportunity to visit the unique stalactite cave of the Fantastic Caverns near Springfield by jeep train. You will spend your lunch break at the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, an outdoor shopping paradise with a museum. The afternoon will take you through the hills of the Ozark Mountains and you will visit the Munger Moss Motel, famous from many Route 66 picture books. The last highlight of the day is the Devil's Elbow Bridge with the biker bar of the same name, near your overnight stop in Rolla.
Day 15 – St. Louis – Mississippi River – Illinois 370 km
In the morning you will visit the world's largest wooden rocking chair and the Wagon Wheel Motel in Cuba. In the late morning you will reach St. Louis on the Mississippi River. The city's landmark is the gigantic Arch and it can be seen from far away. The elevator ride up into the arch offers fantastic views and the Lewis & Clark Museum underneath the arch is definitely worth a visit. As you leave the city you will cross the Old Men River and enter the state of Illinois. You may want to visit the "Chain of Rocks" Bridge there. There are too many towns next on Route 66 to stop everywhere, but the Paris Stop Cafe in Ariston and the Lady of the Highway statue in Wagoner are a must. In the early evening you will reach your overnight stop in Springfield, which is also the capital of Illinois.
Day 16 – Dixie Truck Stop – Gemini Launch Pad – Chicago 320 km
Today, unfortunately, your tour comes to an end. But not before you check out the last highlights of the old Route 66. The Capitol building in Springfield kicks things off, followed by the Smiley Water Tower and the gigantic Hot Dog Man in Atlanta. Passing funk grooves and endless maple forests, you'll head to the Dixie Truck Stop. Along the way, you'll visit a few old gas stations from the 1930s before reaching the Gemini Giant & Launch Pad Drive Inn in Willmington. From here, you'll continue along Route 66 past Countryside to Des Plaines. There, you'll return your bikes to our rental station. You'll spend the next two days in the Chicago/O'Hare Airport area.
Day 17 – Chicago
Today is your free day in Chicago, also known as the "Windy City." Experience the city on a guided tour on a double-decker bus and visit the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower), which offers a fantastic view of the city. The Route 66 sign, Millennium Park, Navy Pier, the Buckingham Fountain from the opening credits of the TV series "Married with Children," and the Polished Bean are also on the itinerary (optional, advance booking required). Spend this evening together at a fine restaurant and reflect on the tour. Overnight in the Chicago/O'Hare Airport area.
Day 18 – Return flight to Europe
During the day, you'll be transferred to the airport in Chicago, where it's time to say goodbye. You'll then board your return flight to your chosen departure airport (connecting flights are possible).
