This journey takes you along legendary stretches of Route 66, through historic main streets, past iconic diners, glowing neon signs, and small gas stations that seem frozen in time. You'll visit places that can't simply be found on a map, but only experienced from the saddle of your motorcycle: Hannibal, the home of Mark Twain; Marceline, Walt Disney's childhood town; small Route 66 towns like Cuba and Carthage with its legendary Boots Court Motel; Tulsa and Oklahoma City with their Western flair and live music scene. You'll ride through Missouri, the green heart of America, past rolling hills, rivers, and fields, on back roads lined with old wooden bridges, mural towns, and small cafes where time seems to slow down. You follow the Mississippi River, experience the iconic city of St. Louis with its majestic Gateway Arch, and glide westward to Kansas City, where BBQ, jazz, blues, and relaxed summer evenings await. Days 1 & 2 – Arrival in Dallas / Grapevine – Arrival
Welcome to the Lone Star State! Grapevine is just ten minutes from DFW/Dallas Airport. Grapevine's historic downtown is the perfect starting point for your Route 66 West trip. Here you'll find numerous boutiques, galleries and artisan workshops, wineries, and restaurants. Don't miss the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, a 1920s-era depot (with daily round-trip service to Fort Worth), and Nash Farm, a late 19th-century working farm. Grapevine has blossomed into a fun, Western-themed, shopping-focused, and historic small town within the DFW Metroplex. From the 500-foot-tall Grapevine Observation Tower, you'll enjoy 360-degree views of the Dallas and Fort Worth skylines, DFW Airport, and beautiful Grapevine Lake.
After breakfast, we pick up our bikes at EagleRider Dallas. Following a briefing and loading our luggage into the support vehicle, our tour heads north. We ride off the highways along small farm roads, cross the border into Oklahoma, and pass through small towns like Durant and Atoka. BBQ restaurants along the way offer opportunities for a lunch break. Today, we'll be treated to our first expansive views, endless roads, and authentic Southern charm. Overnight in McAlester.
GRAPEVINE – TULSA 261 miles / 417 km
Day 3 – You leave Grapevine heading north to Oklahoma
First stop in Durant – Choctaw Nation. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is the largest of the three federally recognized Choctaws and the third-largest federally recognized tribe in the United States. The Choctaw Nation reservation covers nearly 11,000 square miles in southeastern Oklahoma. The Choctaw were a tribe of Native Americans who originated in modern-day Mexico and the American Southwest and settled in the Mississippi River Valley around the 1800s.
Our destination for the day is Tulsa on Route 66. Located on the Arkansas River, it's a vibrant city that blends cosmopolitan flair with Southern hospitality, offering a variety of lively neighborhoods, exceptional restaurants, an unparalleled love of art, and one of the largest collections of Art Deco architecture in the USA. Overnight in Tulsa.
Day 4 – Tulsa to Carthage 133 miles/213 km
Today we drive along one of the most scenic stretches of Route 66, visiting Totem Pole Park in Foyil and making a photo stop at the legendary Blue Whale in Catoosa. Along the way, rolling hills alternate with small towns, each with its own story to tell on the Mother Road. We follow Route 66 through the Kansas Zip, passing Galena and Baxter Springs, and enter Missouri. Our destination is the legendary Boots Court Motel in Carthage, an authentically restored Route 66 motel with a truly nostalgic atmosphere. In the evening, a stroll through the historic downtown area with its imposing courthouse is highly recommended. Overnight in Carthage at the Boots Court Motel.
Day 5 – Carthage – Springfield 58 miles / 93 km
An eventful day on Route 66. We drive to Springfield, Missouri, considered the birthplace of Route 66, and our first highlight is a stop at Garry's Gay Parita Gas Station. Overnight stay in Springfield, Missouri.
Day 6 – Springfield – St. Louis 216 miles / 345 km
We continue along historic Route 66, stopping in Lebanon, famous for the Route 66 Museum. We cross the historic Devil's Elbow Bridge and stop in Cuba, where colorful murals tell the region's story. In the evening, we arrive in St. Louis and end the day relaxing on the banks of the Mississippi or admiring the illuminated Gateway Arch. Overnight stay in historic St. Louis.
7. Tag – St. Louis
The day is yours. Visit the Gateway Arch with its breathtaking views of the Mississippi River, stroll through the Soulard District with its markets and jazz and blues bars, or take a short trip to the Chain of Rocks Bridge and Route 66 State Park. If you like, you can take an optional Mississippi River boat tour. In the evening, you can end the day with a barbecue or a visit to a jazz or blues bar. Overnight stay in St. Louis.
Day 8 – St. Louis – Hannibal – 116 miles / 190 km
Today we follow the Mississippi River north. In Louisiana (MO), we'll stop on the charming Main Street before reaching Hannibal, Mark Twain's hometown. There, a stroll through the historic district is worthwhile, with its Mark Twain Boyhood exhibit, small shops, and cafes. Enjoy the evening by the river or with a visit to the city's historic theater. Overnight in Hannibal.
9. Tag – Hannibal – Marceline – Kansas City – 206 Meilen / 330 km
Today we drive along Missouri's backroads to Marceline, Walt Disney's hometown. A visit to the small Disney Museum is worthwhile before we continue on to Kansas City. The city is known for its legendary BBQ restaurants, jazz music, and historic districts. Those who wish can visit one of the many live music bars in the evening. Overnight stay in Kansas City.
10. Tag – Kansas City (Stay/optional 100 km)
The day is yours to enjoy at your leisure. Explore Kansas City's arts district, visit the famous City Market, or take an optional trip to St. Joseph. The town is known for the Pony Express and the outlaw Jesse James, whose old farm can still be visited today. Those interested can also take a BBQ and brewery tour of the town. Overnight in Kansas City.
Day 11 – Kansas City – Wichita – 196 miles / 314 km
From Kansas City, head towards Wichita on scenic country roads. Before leaving, you can explore the Union Station Historic District and the Nelson-Atkins Museum. Along the way, discover small, historic towns that showcase the charm of Kansas. Once in Wichita, visit the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum and take a walk to the Keeper of the Plains. For a stylish overnight stay, consider the Ambassador Hotel Wichita, steeped in jazz history.
Day 12 – Wichita to Oklahoma City 162 miles / 260 km
Today we're cruising south through Oklahoma on quiet roads.
Make a stop at the Kansas Aviation Museum with its impressive Art Deco architecture. In Oklahoma City, be sure to visit the vibrant Bricktown district with its bars, restaurants, and canal. Also, explore the Stockyards, where livestock trading and cowboy culture come alive. At the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, you'll delve deep into Western history. Route 66 is showcased here in all its historical glory – a true highlight for motorcyclists.
Day 13 – Oklahoma City – Grapevine/Dallas – 194 miles / 310 km
The final leg of our tour. We'll enjoy a leisurely ride back to Dallas along farm roads. There, we'll return the bikes to EagleRider and, depending on our flight time, have time for a farewell dinner or a final stroll through Grapevine. Overnight stay in Grapevine.
