Route 66
Self-guided Tour 16 – Take
The legendary Route 66 takes you through eight states and three time zones. The diverse and fascinating city of Chicago opens the door to the dream road to Los Angeles! Ride along the historic Route 66 with its charming towns, experience the glittering Las Vegas, and "experience" the natural wonder of the Grand Canyon. Enjoy the vast landscapes from the saddle of your Harley, surrounded by like-minded people. This tour can be ridden in either direction; there's no one-way fee from LA to Chicago!
Day 1 – Chicago
Welcome to Chicago, one of America's greatest cities. Upon arrival, you'll transfer independently to a well-located mid-range hotel. Enjoy the rest of the evening visiting one of the countless jazz and blues clubs. Overnight in Chicago.
Day 2 – Chicago
Today is your day to explore Chicago, also known as the Windy City. Experience the city on a double-decker bus tour and visit the Sears Tower, which offers a fantastic view of the city. The city offers excellent shopping opportunities that shouldn't be missed. Overnight in Chicago.
Day 3 – Chicago – Springfield (approx. 320 km/200 miles)
After your second night on American soil, you'll set off in the morning to pick up your bikes. The "Ultimate American Road Trip" then begins south on the legendary Route 66. Your first stop might be in Joliet and the famous Route 66 Museum. The tour continues past the Gemini Giant, the entrance to Wilmington, and Route 66 West. You'll spend the night in Springfield, the capital of Illinois.
Day 4 – Springfield – St. Louis (approx. 159 km/99 miles)
Today, you'll cross the state line into Missouri and head toward St. Louis. Explore the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Stadium, the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, or take an exciting trip on the "Mighty Mississippi." Overnight in St. Louis or the surrounding area.
Day 5 – St. Louis – Joplin (approx. 451 km/282 miles)
On the way to Joplin, you'll pass through the Devil's Elbow, one of the most beautiful stretches of Route 66. On the way to Paris Springs Junction, you'll discover some remaining traces of the old Route 66. Overnight in Joplin or the surrounding area.
Day 6 – Joplin – Oklahoma City (approx. 176 km/110 miles)
Drive to Oklahoma City. There you can visit one of the most interesting museums, the Route 66 Museum in Clinton. Overnight in Oklahoma City or nearby.
Day 7 – Oklahoma City – Amarillo (approx. 416 km/ 258 miles)
In the morning, the journey begins to Amarillo, located away from the rest of Texas and known for its fantastic American cross-country routes. Overnight in Amarillo.
Day 8 – Amarillo – Santa Fe (approx. 449 km/ 279 miles)
Continue to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where you'll spend the next two nights. The city is characterized by Spanish and Native American influences, offering a unique blend reflected in its art, architecture, and traditional cuisine. In the evening, you'll have the opportunity to visit Old Town and get a first impression of this historic city. Spend the night in Santa Fe or nearby.
Day 9 – Santa Fe
Today is a day to relax. Santa Fe is also a great place for shopping. If you're interested, you can take a tour of the ancient Indian town of Taos, which you reach along the Rio Grande River Valley. The steel girder bridge high above the Rio Grande gives us a magnificent view of the river. The return journey takes us through the desert-like, but not arid, highlands. Overnight in Santa Fe or nearby.
Day 10 – Santa Fe – Gallup (approx. 320 km/200 miles)
Today we'll travel via Albuquerque, where you can enjoy your lunch break on the historic plaza, to Gallup. Spend the night in the old railroad and Native American town of Gallup.
Day 11 – Gallup – Grand Canyon (approx. 425 km/266 miles)
Today's interesting route takes you through Petrified Forest National Park, a petrified forest that's an absolute must-see on this route. The national park virtually ends in Holbrook with the famous Wikwam Hotel. A stop in Flagstaff with the oversized Route 66 sign at the train station always makes for a great selfie. Before heading up to the Grand Canyon in the late afternoon, enjoy dinner at a quaint Route 66 restaurant in Williams. Overnight in Tusayan/Grand Canyon
Day 12 – Grand Canyon-Kingman
In the morning, you'll experience one of the highlights of your trip—the Grand Canyon. You'll have the opportunity to take a helicopter tour over the breathtaking Grand Canyon (we'd be happy to make you an offer) before traveling via the legendary town of Seligman and Hackberry to Kingman. Seligman, a town where the typical "spirit" of Route 66 still lives on. Visit the world's most famous barber, Angel Delgadillo, one of the co-founders of the Route 66 Association and considered the father of today's Route 66. Our tip for the evening—dinner at the Danbar.
Day 13 – Kingman – Las Vegas (approx. 172 km/107 miles)
You'll briefly leave Route 66 to visit Las Vegas, a city of gambling and entertainment. Countless shows and sporting events take place alongside the many casinos and resorts. A stop at the Hoover Dam is recommended along the way. Overnight in Las Vegas.
Day 14 – Las Vegas – Needles (approx. 266 km/166 miles)
Your destination today is Needles, located directly on Route 66. Along the way, you'll see several small western towns like Nelson and Oatman, a stopover for many Harley riders. This town also commemorates the first settlers and miners in the West, and the wild donkeys and genuine cowboys look forward to our visit. Overnight stay in Needles or the surrounding area.
Day 15 – Needles – Los Angeles (approx. 411 km/257 miles)
Today, unfortunately, your tour is coming to an end, and the final leg takes you to Los Angeles. "Experience" the end of Route 66 and visit the famous Santa Monica Pier. Enjoy a relaxing evening reflecting on the experiences you've had. Overnight in Los Angeles.
Day 16 – Los Angeles – Germany
Later in the day, you'll be transferred to the airport in Los Angeles, where it's time to say goodbye. You'll then board your return flight to Germany.
