Day 1 – Flight to Los Angeles
Flight with a reputable scheduled airline from your chosen departure airport to Los Angeles (connecting flights possible). Upon arrival in Los Angeles, a shuttle transfer will take you to a well-located mid-range hotel near the airport. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight stay in the Los Angeles/LAX area.
Day 2 – Los Angeles
Today is your day at leisure. In the morning, you have the opportunity to take a guided city tour with a local guide (optional, advance registration required). You will then be picked up from your hotel by bus or van and set off on your city tour, which includes Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Downtown LA, and Hollywood. In the afternoon, there will be a tour briefing and transfer to the rental station, where you will pick up your bikes. After a brief briefing, you will return to the hotel and enjoy dinner together. Overnight in the Los Angeles/LAX area.
Day 3 – Highway 1 – Santa Barbara – Solvang – San Simeon 400 km
In the morning, you'll leave Los Angeles to begin your tour through the Golden State of California. All of your luggage will be loaded into the support vehicle. You'll then be on your way along the famous coastal road, Highway 1 or 101. This is part of the Pan-American Highway (the "dream road" and the longest road in the world – it runs from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego). You'll pass Malibu Beach and visit the famous seaside resort of Santa Barbara. For lunch, you'll reach the Scandinavian-influenced town of Solvang. In the afternoon, the tour continues through the vast farmland of California to Pismo Beach, popular with surfers. After a short coffee break there, you'll reach the end of today's tour, the small town of San Simeon, located directly on the Pacific Ocean. The attractions here include the sunsets and the country estate of newspaper publisher W.R. Hearst, Hearst Castle, with its over 160 rooms. You'll spend the night in the San Simeon area.
Day 4 – Highway 1 – Big Sur – Monterrey – San Francisco 370 km
In the morning, you'll visit the elephant seal colony near San Simeon before continuing your journey along the winding Highway 1. Your next stops are Ragged Point, Lucia, and Big Sur before reaching idyllic Monterrey. Beforehand, coming from Carmel, you'll ride a motorcycle-friendly section of the 17-Mile Scenic Drive, passing some more magnificent viewpoints (incidentally, Clint Eastwood was once mayor of Carmel). Monterey became famous through Steinbeck's book "Canned Sardines." You'll also spend your leisurely lunch break here. In the early evening, you'll arrive at the end of today's leg, San Francisco. You'll stop briefly at Point Lobos, where, on a clear day, you'll already have a magnificent view of the Golden Gate Bridge. You'll spend the night in San Francisco near Fisherman's Wharf, where you can also spend the evening in a first-class seafood restaurant.
Day 5 – San Francisco
Today, you have the whole day at your leisure in San Francisco. Why not take a walking and cable car tour with your guide, which includes downtown, Chinatown, the Cable Car Museum, and Fisherman's Wharf? Afterwards, you have the option of taking an optional boat tour across San Francisco Bay. This will take you past Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate Bridge. Overnight in San Francisco.
Day 6 – Pacific Coast Highway – Napa Valley – Lake Tahoe 425 km
Early in the morning, you'll leave the city over the Golden Gate Bridge and drive a bit further north on the world's most beautiful road. You'll pass Muir Woods State Park before turning east and crossing the Russian River Valley. You'll travel through Napa Valley, one of California's most famous wine-growing regions. Passing Sacramento, the governor's seat of California, you'll reach the High Sierra mountain region and picturesque Lake Tahoe in the afternoon. Spend the night in the Lake Tahoe area.
Day 7 – Highway 50 – Ely – Nevada 560 km
Today is the longest day of your tour. You'll travel through Carson City, the capital of Nevada, along Highway 50. This highway is also known as "the loneliest highway in the USA" and was the main route of the famous Pony Express service. Via the gold rush town of Eureka, you'll reach the historic town of Ely. You'll spend the night at the historic Hotel Nevada and have the opportunity to enjoy a steak dinner in an old jail cell.
Day 8 – Great Salt Lake – Utah – Ogden 475 km
You'll leave Ely in the morning and follow the open countryside to Wendover. Here, you'll enter the state of Utah. Wendover is the starting point for the annual BUB Speed Trials (speed record competition) held on the Great Salt Lake. In the afternoon, you'll visit Salt Lake City and the Mormon Temple District before reaching your overnight destination, Ogden.
Day 9 – Heritage Highway – Wyoming – Rocky Mountains – Jackson 400 km
You'll set off north in the morning, following the scenic Heritage Highway. The vast expanse of land here gives you a glimpse of what life must have been like on the wagon trails in the 19th century. By the afternoon, you'll see the imposing Grand Tetons, part of the Rocky Mountains. You'll reach Jackson, Wyoming, where you'll spend the night. A visit to the famous Silver Dollar Saloon is a must and the perfect way to end your evening in Jackson.
Day 10 – Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Park – Cody 390 km
This morning, you'll follow the scenic road through Grand Teton National Park; this majestic mountain range is reflected in the mountain lakes you pass. In the morning, you'll reach Yellowstone National Park. The first stop there is the world-famous Old Faithful Geyser, before continuing along Firehole Canyon Road. Passing further attractive viewpoints, you'll travel through the western and eastern parts of this unique national park. With a bit of luck, you'll spot one of the buffalo herds that live here. In the late afternoon, you'll cross Buffalo Bill State Park and reach the old western town of Cody. How about a real rodeo this evening? You'll spend the night in Buffalo Bill's hometown, the historic town of Cody.
Day 11 – Beartooth Highway – Red Lodge – Sheridan 460 km
In the morning, you'll stop at the Hotel Irma, which Bill built for his daughter. Next, you'll head high, following the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway and then the Beartooth Highway, known in the USA as the ultimate dream road and reaching over 3,300 meters above sea level. You'll take your lunch break in the tranquil town of Red Lodge and, of course, visit the local Harley® dealer to pick up that "Top of the World" T-shirt. Further scenic roads will then take you down into Bighorn Canyon State Park and on to Sheridan, where you'll spend the night.
Day 12 – Central Plaines – Devils Tower – Sturgis – Black Hills 440 km
Today's stage takes you through the central plains of Wyoming, all the way to South Dakota. This easy-to-ride connecting stage takes you to Wyoming's landmark, Devils Tower National Monument. Many Native American stories surround this granite rock, nestled in the heart of the vast country. In the afternoon, you'll reach Main Street in Sturgis, where the world's largest motorcycle rally takes place every year, attracting up to 1 million visitors. You'll have the opportunity to visit the local motorcycle museum before continuing on to the Black Hills, where you'll spend the next two nights in the Keystone area.
Day 13 – Mt. Rushmore – Custer State Park – Crazy Horse Memorial 320 km
In the morning, your first stop will be at one of the Black Hills' landmarks, Mt. Rushmore, with its four presidential heads carved into the stone. Via the winding Iron Mountain Road, with its pigtail curves, you'll reach Windcave and Custer State Park. There, you'll follow the Wildlife Loop. These parks are known for their large wild buffalo herds, wild donkeys, pronghorn antelope, and countless other animal species. The Needles Highway, with its narrow, single-lane tunnels, will take you to the next highlight, the Crazy Horse Memorial. This monument has been carved out of the stone since the 1940s. The Native American chief's nose alone, at 20 meters high, is the size of one of the presidential heads on neighboring Mt. Rushmore. The work is financed entirely through donations and entrance fees. A short stop in nearby Hill City is recommended before reaching the gambling town of Deadwood for a coffee break in the late afternoon. Overnight stay in the Keystone area.
Day 14 – Badlands National Park – Murdo Auto Museum – Missouri River 430 km
After a short drive along the interstate, you'll reach the next highlight of the tour, the historic town of Wall. There, you'll visit the famous drugstore of the same name, which also houses a Harley® shop. Afterwards, you'll head to Badlands National Park. Anyone who's seen the film "Dances with Wolves" with Kevin Costner will already know the area very well. With a bit of luck, you might even spot one of the buffalo herds that live here. In the afternoon, you'll visit the Automobile and Motorcycle Museum in Murdo, with its array of vintage cars, motorcycles, and many other artifacts from American history, from the Old West to modern times. Today, enjoy the sunset over the old steel arch bridge on the Missouri River. Spend the night in Chamberlain.
Day 15 – Great Plaines – Sioux Falls – Iowa – Minnesota 515 km
This morning, you'll travel through the eastern Great Plains. This is the second-longest day's journey, but thanks to the perfectly straight and well-maintained roads, it's absolutely no problem. Around midday, you'll reach Sioux Falls, which also marks the border between South Dakota and Iowa. You'll spend your lunch break right by the falls, right in the city center. In the afternoon, you'll complete a connecting leg into Minnesota. You'll spend the night in the Albert Lea area.
Day 16 – La Crosse – Mississippi Valley – Prairie du Chien 270 km
Following a few beautiful country roads, you'll reach the Mississippi River near La Crosse. This river is also nicknamed the "Old Men River" and flows south from here into the state of Louisiana, where it empties into the Gulf of Mexico just beyond New Orleans. In Lansing, you'll take your lunch break and visit the lookout point on Mount Hosmer, offering a magnificent view of the Mississippi. You'll follow River Road to the picturesque town of Marquette, where you'll spend the night near Old Town.

Day 17 – Milwaukee – Birthplace of the Legend Harley-Davidson® 320 km
Today, you'll head toward another highlight of the tour—Milwaukee, the birthplace of Harley-Davidson® in 1903. Along the way, you'll stop by the Harley® dealership in Madison, the state capital of Wisconsin. Harley-Davidson® celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2013 and opened a superlative new museum a few years ago, which you can visit this afternoon as part of a private VIP tour (optional). In the evening, you can explore the lively riverfront with its excellent restaurants and bars. Overnight in Milwaukee.

You'll spend the next two nights in the Chicago/O'Hare Airport area.
