Hawaii Island Hopping
Guided Tour 16- Tage
Hawaii island hopping, Hawaii motorcycle tour: Join us on our South Sea island tour and still explore the United States of America. The highlights include the island of Oahu, the gathering place with its capital city, Honolulu, with its pineapple plantations and surf beaches; Maui, the island of valleys, volcanoes, and lonely roads; the garden island of Kauai with its coffee plantations, the wild cliffs of Waimea Canyon; and last but not least, the Big Island, the largest of these unique tropical islands with its still-active volcanoes and black sand beaches.
Day 1 – Flight to Big Island – Hawaii
Flight with a reputable scheduled airline from your chosen departure airport to Kailua-Kona on the Big Island (connecting flight). Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred to a well-located mid-range hotel in Kailua-Kona. The Big Island is the largest island in the Hawaiian chain and known for its five volcanoes, two of which are still active: Mauna Loa and Kilauea. The Ironman, the annual triathlon world championship, is also held on the island. The rest of the evening is at your leisure in this lively little town. Overnight stay in Kailua-Kona.
OUR TIP: A pre-tour program in San Francisco is recommended.
Day 02 – Big Island – Hawaii – the island of volcanoes 350 km
In the morning, you'll pick up your bikes from the local rental station and then head to the southwest of the island. The first coffee plantations, black lava sand beaches, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park are on the agenda. There, you'll visit several viewpoints, and with a bit of luck, you might even spot the lava from the still-active volcano erupting from time to time. Overnight in Kailua-Kona.
Day 03 - Saddle Road - Hilo - East Coast - Honoka'a - Waipi'o Valley 320 km
This morning, you'll drive along the Saddle Road to the northeast coast and thus into the interior. This mountain pass takes you directly past the two volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. You'll reach Hilo, the island's capital and the rainier east side of the Big Island. The numerous rivers and waterfalls here transform the landscape into a jungle.
The partially winding route takes you along the picturesque coast and through eucalyptus forests to the historic town of Honoka'a. After a coffee break there, you'll continue to the Waipi'o Valley lookout point, a sacred site for the local population. Via Waimea, you'll then return to Kailua-Kona, arriving in the afternoon. Spend the night in Kailua-Kona.
Day 04 – Parker Ranch – King Kamehameha – Kapa'au – Pololú Valley 290 km
In the morning, you'll start your tour to Waimea, the headquarters of the Parker Ranch. With over 90,000 hectares of land and approximately 60,000 cattle, it's the largest ranch in the USA. This area has also become famous worldwide as a filming location for the movie "Jurassic Park." From here, you'll take the winding Kohala Mountain Road to Kapa'au. There, you'll find the statue of King Kamehameha I, which stands near his birthplace. The next stops are Kèòkea Beach Park and the viewpoint overlooking the photogenic Polilù Valley.
Following the west coast, you'll return to your original starting point, Kailua-Kona, in the afternoon and return your bikes to our Harley-Davidson® rental station. You can spend the evening at a nice restaurant near the hotel. Overnight in Kailua-Kona.
Day 05 – Oahu – Tantalus Drive – Pali Lookout 90 km
In the morning, you'll take your first short 35-minute flight to the neighboring island of Oahu and the archipelago's capital, Honolulu. Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to your hotel near lively Waikiki Beach, not far from the beach and the entertainment center. After a lunch break, you'll pick up your rental bikes from the rental station and drive around the island's landmark, Diamond Head.
We continue along the coast and reach the Pali Lookout. Here, you'll get your first good overview of this beautiful island. The next highlight is the winding Tantalus Drive, which takes us high above the city. From this vantage point, you'll have an outstanding view of Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Diamond Head, and Waikiki Beach. Overnight in Waikiki Beach.
Day 06 – Surfer Paradise North Shore – Shrimp Farms 160 km
Today's leg will be a bit longer. You'll reach the North Shore in the morning, home to famous surfing beaches like Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay, and the top spot, Banzai Pipeline. In winter, the world's surfing elite gather here to let off steam in the waves, which can reach up to 15 meters. The small town of Haleiwa has a specialty: Hawaiian shaved ice, with its countless flavors. The long lines at the stalls speak for themselves. You'll spend your lunch break at Turtle Beach, where you can also go swimming.
In the afternoon, you'll drive along the coast again, passing numerous shrimp farms. And what would a trip be without a quick stop to sample at least a portion of these delicacies, as fresh as almost anywhere else in the world. Overnight in Waikiki Beach.
Day 7 – Pearl Harbor – Dole Pineapple Plantation – West Coast 150 km
First thing in the morning, you'll visit Pearl Harbor. The memorial there will give you a very good overview of this American monument and its history in the Pacific. Just in time for your lunch break, you'll pass large orchid and tropical flower plantations and arrive at the Dole company, known worldwide for its pineapples, among other things. In the middle of these large plantations lies a visitor center that provides excellent insight into the history of this sweet fruit. You'll take a train ride through the fields on the Pineapple Express. In the afternoon, you'll return to Waikiki, where you'll drop off your aircraft and make the most of the time for some shopping. Spend the night in Waikiki Beach.
Day 08 – Kauai the Garden Island 80 km
In the morning, you'll be transferred to the airport for your short 35-minute flight to Kauai. Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to your hotel near the local town of Lihue/Kapaa. The sandy beach is right next door. From there, after a lunch break, you'll head to the local rental station, where you'll pick up your bikes. Today's orientation tour takes you to the historic town of Poipu. You'll walk through the eucalyptus tree tunnel and past salt flats to Spouted Horn, a sea geyser whose spouting water always creates a magnificent rainbow.
Before returning to your hotel in the afternoon, you'll pass the remains of the Coco Palms Hotel. Elvis's most successful film, "Blue Hawaii," was filmed there. The song "Rock a Hula Baby" from the film is world-famous. The hotel was destroyed and closed after a tropical storm in 1992. However, efforts are underway to rebuild it. Overnight in the Lihue/Kapaa area.
Day 09 – Kauai Coffee – Waimea Canyon 100 miles
Today, your tour begins at the Kauai Coffee Company, the island's only coffee plantation, where virtually every bean is roasted in-house, offering a wide variety of flavors. On an entertaining tour, you'll learn about the history of the noble Arabica bean. Of course, you'll have the opportunity to sample this delicious black beverage. On the way to the unique Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, lie the remains of the Russian Fort Elizabeth.
Yes, you heard right. Russia once had a colony in the South Seas, although it didn't last long. If you're a fan of the TV series Magnum P.I., the canyon's landscape will look familiar. This was the helicopter playground of his best friend T.J. The red earth alternates with rainforest and rugged cliffs, and fun is guaranteed. Overnight in the Lihue/Kapaa area.
OUR TIP: Helicopter flight along the coast and Waimea Canyon.
Day 10 – Wailua River – Kilauea – Na Pali Coast 150km
Today, you'll explore the interior and the Na Pali Coast in the north. Along Hawaii's only navigable waterway, the Wailua River, you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the river and one of its many waterfalls. There, you'll also see the film set of the jungle village from the movie "Outbreak," starring Dustin Hoffman, Rene Ruso, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey.
The next stop on your tour is the cliffs near the Kilauea Lighthouse, built in 1913, which is a refuge for many endangered bird species. And with a bit of luck, you might spot humpback whales from up here. Near the upscale town of Princeville, the view opens up to the floodplains and taro farms.
This staple food of the islands is available in all kinds of dishes. Rice was even grown here in the past. You continue along the road toward the old hippie colony at Kee Beach. Along the way, you'll pass two photogenic lava caves, and the white sandy beaches will make you feel like you've finally arrived in the South Seas. You'll return the motorcycles in the early afternoon. You'll end the evening with fresh fish and seafood in a pleasant restaurant. You'll spend the night in the Lihue/Kapaa area.
Day 11 – Maui, the island of valleys
In the morning, you'll depart for Kauai Airport for the short 30-minute flight to the island of Maui. Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to Lahaina-Kaanapali, where you'll check into your hotel on the island's most beautiful beach.
Use the day to relax and unwind on the famous Kaanapali Beach. Directly across the street are the two islands of Lanai and Molokai, both of which are also great day trips. Nearby Whalers Village and Old Lahaina offer a variety of restaurants, bars, and shops to suit every taste. In the late afternoon, pick up your motorcycles from our rental station in Lahaina and start exploring the old whaling town of Lahaina.
Day 12 – Iao Nadel – Northwest Coast – Honolua Bay 110 km
In the morning, you'll embark on a beautiful half-day tour along the northwest side of the island, visiting the Iao Needle and the park below, the Temple. Before that, you'll stop at the Harley® dealership in the island's capital, Kahului. The tour then continues along the narrow, partially single-lane coastal road to the northwest side of the island.
Beautiful viewpoints alternate with coves that invite you to swim and snorkel. You can spend the evening in the nearby historic town of Lahaina. A visit to the Hard Rock Cafe or the Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant is a must. Spend the night in Lahaina-Kaanapali.
Day 13 – Haleakala Volcano – Protea and Lavender Farms 230 km
Warm clothes? – What? – For Hawaii? Yeah, folks, don't laugh! In the morning, the road takes you to the island's capital, Kahului, and from there, it's a 65-kilometer-long, winding route up to the 3,055-meter-high volcanic peak of Haleakala. The view from up there is unparalleled anywhere in the world, and in the morning, it can be as low as a measly 10 degrees Celsius. With a bit of luck, you'll see Hawaii's two highest volcanic mountains, which you already know, on the Big Island, about 180 kilometers away.
On the way up, you'll stop at a lavender and protea farm. The visit is combined with a short self-guided tour and is very interesting. You'll arrive at "Grandma's Coffee House," famous throughout the island, just in time for lunch. The afternoon is at your leisure to relax. Use this time to prepare for the evening. If you're interested, you can attend what is arguably the best luau of all the islands in Lahaina. This Polynesian festival, with its traditional dishes and hula dance performances from all over the South Pacific, is definitely a must. Overnight in Lahaina-Kaanapali. OUR TIP: Lahaina Luau Dinner Show
Day 14 – Road to Hana 280 km
This road will stay with you for a lifetime: 80 km from the island's capital, it passes countless surfing beaches, mostly along the coast, and crosses 54 bridges, some of which are only single-lane, to the sleepy town of Hana. The ocean alternates with rainforest, rivers, and waterfalls. Near Hana is also the mausoleum of Charles Lindbergh, the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic. You'll return to Lahaina in the late afternoon and return your bikes to the rental station. Overnight in Lahaina-Kaanapali.
Day 15 – Flight home from Hawaii to Europe or beach extension in Maui
You can still use the morning to swim and relax. In the afternoon, you'll be shuttled to Maui Airport. Your return flight with a reputable scheduled airline via the US mainland (with a connecting flight) will take you back to the starting point of your trip.
OUR TIP: Extend your stay on Maui for a beach holiday. We offer a package with three additional nights, which we are happy to customize to your needs. You can extend your motorcycle rental or rent a car. From Whalers Village, which is close to the hotel, there is a convenient bus shuttle to Old Lahaina. For the more adventurous, you can also take a day trip to the offshore islands or a dive boat trip into the underwater world of the Pacific. Maui has plenty of options for you.
Day 16 – Flight from the US mainland to Europe
Due to the time difference and the late flight, you'll only arrive on the US mainland today and fly on from there to Europe. Alternatively, you can take advantage of a stopover program on the US mainland. These include San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlanta, or our favorite, New York.
OUR TIP: Extension program on the mainland USA
Day 17 – Arrival in Europe
Arrival at your departure point in the morning. End of the trip.
