15 Days – Highway One and the West
Day 1 – Flight to Los Angeles
Flight with a renowned scheduled airline from your chosen departure point to Los Angeles (connecting flights possible). Upon arrival in Los Angeles, the shuttle transfer will take place at a well-located mid-range hotel near the airport. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight in Los Angeles.
Day 2 – Los Angeles
Today you have the day at your leisure. In the morning you have the opportunity to take part in a guided city tour with a local guide (optional, advance booking required). You will then be picked up from the hotel by bus and start your city tour to Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Downtown L.A. and Hollywood. In the afternoon, the tour briefing and transfer to the rental station, where you will take over your machines. Overnight in Los Angeles.
Day 3 – Palomar – Anza Borrego – Palm Springs 310 km
In the morning, you'll leave Los Angeles to begin your tour of the golden state of California. You follow Highway 1, which is also called "Panamericana" or "Dream Road of the World". Passing the luxury residential area of Palos Verdes, you will head to Long Beach, where you will make a stop at the former cruise ship "Queen Mary". This is now anchored there as a hotel ship. You will spend your lunch break in the well-known "Hells Kitchen" Biker Bar on Ortega Highway. We continue through the Palomar Mountains and the Anza Borrego Plateau. In the early evening, you will reach the desert oasis of Palm Springs via wonderful winding roads. Overnight in the Palm Springs/Rancho Mirage area.
Day 4 – Box Canyon – Arizona – Prescott 450 km
Today's stage will be a little longer, but you will quickly reach your destination for today due to the well-developed roads. You leave the Palm Springs area and follow the date tree, vegetable and fruit plantations to get through Box Canyon to Interstate 10, which you follow along Josuah Tree Park. You cross the Mojave Desert and reach Yarnell. The plateau there is a center of horse breeding in Arizona. Afterwards you will drive again over a wonderful winding course, which could easily be in the Alps, to your destination for today, Prescott. This is probably one of the most famous western cities in the world. The whiskey row there is known throughout the USA and can of course be visited by you in the afternoon. Overnight in Prescott.
Day 5 – Sedona – Highway 89 – Williams 240 km
Early in the morning, you'll start along Highway 89 to the old mining town of Jerome before heading out to explore ancient Native American rock dwellings at Montezumas Castle National Monument. The New Age city of Sedona, with a stop at Red Rock State Park, is also on your way to Flagstaff, where you will meet Route 66 for the first time. Lovers of Alpine passes will certainly get their money's worth again today. From Flagstaff you will reach Williams, your overnight stay for the next two nights, after a short drive. The motel overnight is almost directly on Route 66.
Day 6 – Grand Canyon 360 km
In the morning you start your tour day, from Williams, to one of the seven wonders of the world. There you will first have the opportunity to take an almost 1-hour helicopter tour over the breathtaking Grand Canyon. You will then follow the scenic road along the south rim of the Grand Canyon. There are interesting stops along the way, such as Duck Rock, Grand View, Lipan Point and Desert View with its Indian watchtower. Your late lunch stop will be at the old trading post in Cameron, in the middle of the Navajo Reservation. OUR TIP: Cameron Trading Post – highly recommended for Native American jewelry and souvenirs! In the afternoon you will drive along the painted Dessert (colored desert) and visit the Wutpatki & Sunset Crater National Monument. Overnight in Williams.
Day 7 – Seligman – Route 66 – Las Vegas 400 km
In the morning, you will leave Williams to soon follow Route 66 again. In the small town of Seligman, you will visit "Angel Delgadillo", probably the most famous hairdresser in the world, who is also considered the father of today's Route 66. We have him to thank for the fact that the Motherroad is on everyone's lips again. You will then stop at the General Store in Hackberry and the Route 66 Museum in Kingman. There is also lunch at Mr. Dz's Diner from the 50s. In the afternoon, the Hoover Dam and the largest man-made reservoir in North America, Lake Mead, are on the program before you roll into the glittering city of Las Vegas. You will spend the next two nights in Sin City – the City of Sin.
OUR TIP: If you want, you can end the day with a dinner together and then be chauffeured like the movie stars on an optional stretch limousine tour over the Strip and into the old town of Las Vegas.
Day 8 – Las Vegas
The day is at your leisure today in Las Vegas. Your guide will be happy to help you get show tickets, helicopter flights and all other attractions. An optional shopping shuttle to an outlet mall is offered on site. For the insatiable drivers, a day tour on your own to the Valley of Fire or to Red Rock State Park and Mount Charleston is a good idea.
OUR TIP: Get married in Las Vegas! No matter if for the first time or to renew the wedding vows. Just ask us!
Day 9 – Death Valley National Park 480 – 540 km
Today you will drive to another highlight of your tour – Death Valley. Where the name "Valley of Death" comes from, you can certainly imagine very well after this day's stage. Sand as far as the eye can see, no water and sometimes extreme temperatures are just a few examples. You follow the valley, which is already back in California, and, depending on the course of the tour and depending on the opening of the passes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains*, you will reach your overnight stay in the Mammoth Lake or Ridgecrest area* in the early evening.
INFO: In extremely high temperatures, we reserve the right, due to the specifications of the motorcycle rental companies, to lay the route along a side valley of Death Valley.
* If we spend the night in Ridgecrest, we will follow the south route to get to Yosemite NP.
Day 10 – Mono Lake – Yosemite National Park – Sequoia 310 km
Early in the morning, you will start your Harley tour along the Sierra Nevada to visit Mono Lake with its tufa pillars first. Over the Tioga Pass (3031 m) you will reach the unique Yosemite National Park. This is known for its waterfalls and magnificent landscape. You will see various sights of the park and, if you are interested, you can take a hike of about 1 hour through the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. These are the unique American sequoias. Up to 27 men are needed to embrace the largest of them with their arms and a Harley or a car could easily drive through the holes drilled. Afterwards you drive to the edge of the park, to your overnight stay in the middle of the original wild forest landscape. Easy lodge overnight near Yosemite NP.
Day 11 – Highway 49 – Knights Bridge – San Francisco 340 km
Today we drive along the well-known Highway 49, which became famous as a transport route during the gold rush of 1849. Over winding roads and through hilly landscapes, you will reach the Stanislaus River. You follow this for a while through the seemingly endless almond, pecan and pistachio plantations. There you also have the opportunity to visit one of the few old covered bridges that still exist in the USA. In the original 50's Diner you will spend your lunch break before you reach the impressive city of San Francisco on the Pacific coast in the afternoon. The next two days you will spend the night in San Francisco near Fishermens Wharf. You can easily explore the Wharf on foot from the hotel tonight.
Day 12 – San Francisco – Rest day
Today you have the whole day in San Francisco at your leisure. Just start a tour with your guide, on foot and with the cable car, which includes Union Square, Downtown, Chinatown, the Cable Car Museum and Fishermen's Wharf. At noon there is the possibility to take part in an optional boat trip across the San Francisco Bay. This leads past Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate Bridge. Afterwards, after the lunch break, you can take a double-decker bus tour to the Golden Gate Bridge and other highlights such as Golde Gate Park and Alamo Square. Overnight in San Francisco.
Day 13 – Highway 1 – Monterey – Big Sur – San Simeon 365 km
You'll start in the morning with a final view of the Golden Gate Bridge to get to Monterey via Highway 1, Half Moon Bay, and other well-known coastal towns. This is the real start of your drive along the famous Highway 1, which is part of the Pan-American Highway and also the longest road in the world, which leads from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego. Monterey also became known through the Steinbeck book "The Road of the Oil Sardines". You drive here on Sunset Drive, which is a section of the 17 Mile Drive, and pass magnificent viewpoints. You will reach the small town of Carmel, where Clint Eastwood was once mayor. In the afternoon, stops such as the Bixby Bridge, Big Sur and Ragged Point are on the program. A visit to the elephant seal colony near Hearst Castle completes this day. Today you will spend the night near San Simeon.
Day 14 – Highway 1 – Pismo Beach – Solvang – Santa Barbara – Malibu 400 km
The first stop this morning is Pismo Beach, known among surfers, with its long sandy beaches and pier. The tour now takes you through the vast farmland of California. For lunch you will reach the Scandinavian town of Solvang. In the afternoon, you will return to the coast and visit the famous seaside resort of Santa Barbara before heading past Malibu Beach towards Los Angeles. After arrival in the late afternoon, you will drop off your motorcycles at our local rental partner and transfer to the hotel. The overnight stay is in a hotel near the airport of Los Angeles.
Day 15 – Flight home to Europe
In the course of the day, the hotel shuttle to Los Angeles Airport and flight home with a renowned scheduled airline (connecting flights possible) will take place back to the starting point of your trip.
Day 16 – Arrival in Europe
Arrival at your departure point in the morning. End of the journey.
