Maui makes island dreams come true – whether watching the waves on the beach, hitting the tee on one of the world's most beautiful golf courses, exploring the underwater world or the charming little towns, or taking panoramic tours through fabulously green nature with picture-perfect waterfalls.

Beachy Keen
Ho'okipa Beach on Maui's north shore is popular with windsurfers, while the long and wide Makena Beach—also known as Big Beach—is a draw in the south. Ka'anapali Beach on the west side of the island boasts golden sand, beachfront hotels, and proximity to shops and restaurants, making it especially popular with tourists and families. Speaking of colorful sand: In the east of Maui, you'll find Wai'anapanapa Beach with black sand, Kaihalulu Beach with red sand, and the crescent-shaped Hamoa Beach with gray sand.

The best photo motifs
Your ticket to the spectacular Haleakalā National Park is valid for three days – and you'll need that time to see all the attractions! After snapping a photo of the beautiful sunrise at the visitor center, you can climb the highest peak on Maui (either on foot or by car). On the Pipiwai Trail, fabulous views await you, including a giant banyan tree, a ghostly bamboo forest, and the Makahiku Falls and Waimoku Falls. Also not to be missed are the multi-tiered waterfalls at the Pools of Oheo and the surreal crater of Haleakalā. At the top of your photo list for Iao Valley State Park in central Maui is the 366 m high Iao Needle, the site of a historic battle in 1790. The famous Hana Highway not only leads you along hair-raising switchbacks, but also through dramatic scenery.

Gastronomy, shopping and nightlife
After grabbing a donut on a stick at a bakery in Makawao, explore the local art scene and observe the local "paniolos" (Hawaiian cowboys). In Paia, hippies and surfers have left their mark on the bohemian shops. At Mana Foods, locals also enjoy shopping for pastries or delicacies. At Laura Mango's art gallery on Hana Highway, you're sure to find an original Hawaiian painting as a perfect souvenir. Food truck fans should definitely try the crispy octopus with coconut shrimp and rice in Kihei. After dark, round out the day in Lahaina with a glass of beer at the Maui Brewing Company and a stroll through the bars on lively Front Street.
