Easy Rider Movie Tour

Guided tour – 15 days/14 nights

No other film in history has had such a drastic effect on the motorcycle world as "Easy Rider". With its release in 1969, Easy Rider introduced the world to the freedom of motorcycling in America. Then as now, there is hardly a man who watched this film and did not want to experience freedom on the streets of America like "Billy" or "Wyatt" on "Captain America", even if only for a few days. 43 years later, Easy Rider is still considered the most important motorcycle film of all time, keeping alive the dream of freedom and life-changing adventure on the open roads in the vastness of America. EagleRider Motorcycle Rental and Tours has been granted exclusive rights and we are proud to offer motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world the legendary ride of "Billy" and "Wyatt" on the original route of the film as a guided tour. Working with Sony Pictures and film experts like Alan "Mr. Zipp" Dunn, EagleRider researched the original route as it was taken by "Billy" and "Wyatt" during filming. From the highways of Southern California through the merciless heat of Death Valley, along historic Route 66 and finally to the jazz and blues metropolis of New Orleans, the Easy Rider Movie Tour makes the dream you've had since you first saw the film a reality. Our experienced guides will show you more than just the way on a ride that you will never forget. They also give you a look behind the scenes and share stories with you that we learned from the producer of the film shortly before his death and stop at many of the original locations. At the end of this grandiose tour, when everything is said and done, you will also be an "Easy Rider" yourself.

Day 1 – Arrival Los Angeles
Welcome to Los Angeles, the City of Angels. Take some time to relax at your hotel's swimming pool or visit the city's attractions before we meet your guide in the hotel lobby at 5:00 PM. Let's toast to the upcoming ride before we eat together in one of our favorite restaurants and celebrate a bit. After all, a good meal and a few drinks are the fastest way to get to know each other and that is important for the upcoming experience. It would have been no different with "Billy" and "Wyatt".

Day 2 – Los Angeles, CA – Death Valley, CA – 292.0 mi / 467.2 km
The many miles of our first day are quickly torn off on this exciting tour and that is not difficult for us with all the anticipation. After picking up our bikes at EagleRider Los Angeles, it's just under a mile from the filming location of the infamous drug deal at the beginning of the film. Then it goes north into the vastness of the merciless Valley of Death. In the high-altitude deserts and the deep valleys of California, you may find some insight into the secret of Easy Rider. There is a lot to learn. This is how "Billy" and "Wyatt" once started their trip and some of the buildings along the way look no different than they did more than 40 years ago. Tonight we will gather around the campfire at our hotel, have a few drinks and tell stories under a starry sky like you have never seen before. The night in the valley of death is something special.

Day 3 – Death Valley, CA – Needles, CA – 178.0 mi / 284.8 km
Like "Billy" and "Wyatt", we also start from Death Valley in the still cool morning and drive to Barstow on Route 66. For those who want to indulge in the full Easy Rider experience, we'll stop in front of a famous building outside Ballarat, California, and give you the chance to take one last look at your watch just like in the movies, before leaving it in the dust next to the road and thundering off into the desert. Between the Valley of Death and Barstow lies the vast Mojave Desert, one of the most deserted places in the world with small villages struggling to survive, long after the great departure west on Route 66 after a devastating drought and the time of depression. Tonight we celebrate in the "Bagdad Cafe", not only since "Out of Rosenheim" but already for over 50 years a milestone on Route 66.

Day 4 – Needles, CA – Flagstaff, AZ – 216.0 mi / 345.6 km
We leave Needles in the morning and cross the mighty Colorado on Route 66. You will certainly remember this bridge shown in the film. Then the ride goes through the old western town of Oatman in Arizona, where the ghost of bygone gold rush times and feral donkeys dominate the streetscape. It then goes to other filming locations in the pine forests of the Sacred Mountains, where "Billy" and "Wyatt" were denied a motel room at the beginning of the film. The "Pine Breeze Inn", famous for this scene, is still standing and we also stop there for some interesting stories and photos. A little later we come to Flagstaff, where you can marvel at the neon sign "No vacancy" in an old town bar, which is switched on by the motel owner in the film. Of course, we stop there for a cool drink. There are a variety of locations of shots and scenes from the film. Have your cameras ready. Get ready for a night out in Flagstaff's attractive Old Town.

Day 5- Flagstaff, AZ – Monument Valley (Kayenta, AZ) – 193.0 mi / 308.8 km
From Flagstaff we head north through the vast country of the Navajos with breathtaking stretches of track. We pass the Wupatki National Monument, where "Billy" and "Wyatt" once spent the night in the Indian ruins. A visit to the still existing Sacred Mountain gas station, the filming location of the tank scene, is also on the program. A few hours later we are in the middle of the sandstone monoliths of Monument Valley. EagleRider has a long-standing relationship with the Navajo tribe, and they will give us a private tour of the Navajo tribe, complete with music and the traditional Navajo tacos at sunset in the middle of the sacred place for the Navajos.

Day 6 – Monument Valley (Kayenta, AZ) – Durango, CO – 140.0 mi / 224.0 km
Our Easy Rider tour continues and we visit a famous attraction of the Southwest, the "Four Corners", the point where the states of Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico meet, a popular destination for motorcycle enthusiasts. Friends and family at home will be amused to see you in one picture with hands and feet at the same time in four states of the USA. We end the day in Farmington in New Mexico, known for the serenity of its inhabitants, the impressive landscape and its "Old West" saloons.

Day 7 – Durango, CO – 0.0 mi / 0.0 km
There is only one description for the drive from Famington to Taos: Unique! The scenery is incredible and you feel like you're in the middle of filming Easy Rider. Taos is a town in the mountains of New Mexico and is rich in Native American history and culture, which is probably why it was the location of some of the most famous scenes from the film, such as the two film heroes' stay in the hippie commune and the prison scene. Of course, we visit both places.

Day 8 – Durango, CO – Taos, NM – 228.0 mi / 364.8 km
There is only one description for the drive from Famington to Taos: Unique! The scenery is incredible and you feel like you're in the middle of filming Easy Rider. Taos is a town in the mountains of New Mexico and is rich in Native American history and culture, which is probably why it was the location of some of the most famous scenes from the film, such as the two film heroes' stay in the hippie commune and the prison scene. Of course, we visit both places.

Day 9 – Taos, NM – Amarillo, TX – 300.0 mi / 480.0 km
Even more than the drive from Farmington to Taos is the drive from Taos to Amarillo! Our first stay is in Las Vegas, New Mexico. This is where the exterior shots of the prison scene were filmed. Usually there is an older resident who can tell some stories about the filming and about the hippie motorcyclists of the late sixties. You probably remember the scene where Jack Nicholson as "George" created his famous nic-nic-nic-nic – fut -fut -fut – Indians! – when he took his first wisky of the day after his release from prison. With that in mind, we're going to raise a Jim Beam to Old DH Lawrence tonight in Amarillo. If you're crazy, like the film crew back then, then meet at his grave at night! Our last highlight of the day is a detour to the filming location of the "If you want to be a bird" scene with Jack Nicholson as Peter Fonda's passenger. We spend the night in our favorite hotel in Amarillo, the "Ambassador". Our friends from the "Big Texan Steakhouse" pick us up there with a fleet of old Cadillacs and then treat us to the best steaks in Texas!

Day 10 – Amarillo, TX – Abilene, TX – 287.0 mi / 459.2 km
The only real gap on the Easy Rider route is between New Mexico and Louisiana. It is said that the film crew split up and traveled through Texas and Oklahoma on different routes to meet again in Louisiana and shoot the final scenes. This was done to give actors and film crew a break from the tyrannical nature of film director Dennis Hopper. One crew had already quit mid-shoot due to Hopper's aggressive and brusque manner. Our route takes us through the Panhandle, the "panhandle" of Texas, to historic Abilene. This small and original western town leaves us wanting to spend a little more time there.

Day 11 – Abilene, TX – Austin, TX – 220.0 mi / 352.0 km
We bridge the time of separation of actors and film crew on our way to New Orleans with a detour to our favorite city in Texas, the music metropolis Austin. Our hotel is located in the heart of 6th Street, in the middle of the Music District, where you can walk to all the interesting bars. Rumor has it that Peter Fonda spent a few days and nights non-stop in the bars here. A remarkable achievement considering that pubs were often open around the clock in the sixties.

Day 12 – Austin, TX – Lake Charles, LA – 290.0 mi / 464.0 km
Some of Easy Rider's most famous and memorable scenes were filmed in the southern state of Louisiana. This is where the journey takes us today from Texas. It is a few miles to get there, but the exciting anticipation makes the time fly by. Louisiana, with its southern charm, swamps and bayous, and interesting eateries, seems a bit exotic compared to what you've experienced so far. Outside of New Orleans is Lake Charles, one of our favorite places in Louisiana. Tonight we enjoy local beer specialties or some of the once illegally distilled "moonshine". Lake Charles comes to life in the evening and gives us a taste of the lure of New Orleans, which once also attracted "Billy" and "Wyatt".

Day 13 – Lake Charles, LA – New Orleans, LA – 245.0 mi / 392.0 km
One of the reasons for the resounding success of the classic was the widespread horror among the spectators about the final scene, when "Billy" and "Wyatt" were literally shot out of the saddle by locals with shotguns. This was filmed on a country road outside of Krotz Springs, Louisiana. Today we visit the original filming location of a scene that fundamentally determined the self-image of motorcyclists. It is an almost unbelievable experience to stand at this point, to become aware of being a motorcyclist and to be grateful for life. Absorb this moment. We end the day with the short drive to New Orleans..... That's right, New Orleans. Needs more to be said?

Day 14 – New Orleans, LA – 0.0 mi / 0.0 km
As you can imagine, New Orleans became a mecca for motorcycle enthusiasts after the release of the film in 1969. The well-known brothel scene and the shots in the cemetery combined the drug culture of the hippies and that of the establishing biker scene of the late sixties. "Billy" and "Wyatt" moved in the borderline areas of life and searched for freedom there. New Orleans was the ideal setting for many iconic scenes from Easy Rider. Our experiences there will probably be more harmless, but still memorable. New Orleans is like a pervasive living organism and you quickly understand why this city plays such an important role in the film. Tonight there is a big party with crabs and gumbo. Celebrate the end of this great tour with your new Easy Rider friends. Let's toast to "Billy", "Wyatt" and "George" and of course to the man who started it all, the late Dennis Hopper.

Day 15 – New Orleans, LA Departure0.0 mi / 0.0 km
Congratulations on fulfilling a dream that most fans of Easy Rider will never experience themselves. What's next on the agenda? Route 66? Wild West? Sturgis? Canada to Yellowstone? Maybe it's only a matter of time before we meet again on the streets in the vastness of America. Until then, Easy Riders!

If you'd like to hang out in New Orleans a bit longer, let us know. We'd be happy to arrange it for you.
